Who we are

The Heriot-Watt Chapter of the Society for Women in Marine Science.

The Society for Women in Marine Science brings together marine scientists of all career levels to discuss the diverse experiences of women in marine science, celebrate the research done by women in the field, and promote the visibility of women in the marine science community.

Our aims are:

•Provide a space for women-identifying and non-binary marine scientists to join and support one another virtually and in person when possible;

•Create a platform to highlight the stories of women-identifying and non-binary marine scientists at HWU and beyond, including the unique challenges (and benefits) there are to being a woman in marine science;

Connect women-identifying and non-binary marine scientists with other female and NB marine scientists from around the world;

Increase the visibility of gender inequality and what can be done to narrow the inequality gap.

SWiMS has received funding from Heriot Watt's Mary Burton Fund.
